Colour Match Boxes

Color match boxes are very popular in India as well as in foreign countries, given to the sparking effect it creates when ignited. The head of the match stick of length 48mm and width 4mm is made of antimony trisulphide and potassium chlorate, while the strike pad at the side of the match box has red phosphorus and glass. When the stick head is rubbed to the surface, red phosphorus converts into white phosphorus and reacts with the potassium chlorate on the head. The reaction causes production of heat which is enough to ignite antimony trisulphide on the head. There are many sticks in each box. The time taken to use all sticks in color match boxes depends upon how frequent you need the matches.
